Signs contracts with Hyundai Engineering to upgrade facility, enhance capacity.

ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, Attock Refinery (ARL) signed contracts with Hyundai Engineering Company for execution of the ARL up-gradation project, according to notice sent by the company to the Karachi Stock Exchange.

The up-gradation project comprises installation of a preflash unit, Isomerisation unit, Diesel Hydrodesulphurisation unit and expanding the capacity of existing captive power plant.

The overall cost of the project amounts to $251 million, which will be financed with a debt-to-equity ratio of 80:20. Thus, ARL is in the process of finalizing a financial plan with a consortium of banks.

After the installation of the preflash unit, ARL's refining capacity will increase by 10,400 barrels per day or 25%. Once the Naphtha Isomerisation unit is completed, ARL will be able to enhance production of premier motor gasoline by 20,000 tons per month.

The Diesel Hydrodesulphurisation unit will make Attock Refinery capable of producing low-sulphur content high speed diesel, which burns cleanly and efficiently.

Moreover, Hyundai Engineering has also been given the contract to expand ARL's captive power plant by 18 megawatts (MW).

The agreement was signed at a ceremony at ARL, Morgah, Rawalpindi, where ARL CEO Adil Khattak and Hyundai Engineering Company Project Director Won Ock Kim were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Khattak said that the project will prove to be of immense value not only for ARL, but also for the country.

He appreciated the efforts of both ARL and Hyundai's project management teams for their hard work in concluding these agreements and hoped that refinery up-gradation project shall be completed within the agreed time frame.

ARL's CEO also thanked the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources for enabling the local refineries to undertake up-gradation and expansion projects in the country.
